Biology Through Interactive Whiteboard Resources

>> Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Everything related to our bodies, the way we breathe, the food we digest, and the diseases we suffer from are all related to biological studies. When we are reading up on the subject of biology, we do not know what functions are going on in the body of an organism as we are not able to see inside the body for obvious reasons. However, when the internal working of the body is revealed through 3d animation and video tutorials, we can see first-hand things like how exactly blood travels from the heart, how the lungs expand and contract and how the food passes through the body to give us energy. All this remains a distant dream without using interactive whiteboard resources in our daily curriculum.

There are innumerable diagrams that come with the study of biology. Biology is a subject that is deemed to be incomplete without the use of visual aids. Everything of significance needs to be drawn and marked along with providing a theoretical explanation. Interactive whiteboard resources showcase different diagrams relating to the study material using lots of colors that makes it appealing for students. Students feel involved with the study of the subject. The habitats and natural surroundings of different organisms that we study can be easily shown. There are some organisms that are microbial and simply too small in size to be observed with the naked eye even though they are present all around us. Such organisms like bacteria, viruses and fungi that have a considerable impact on daily living can be easily seen and their structures studied by observing images on the whiteboards. Students can learn in this manner in the classroom and then also go home and download these resources that are available at most places free of cost.
For younger kids, one of the first things that are taught life cycles of organisms. For primary class kids, this concept can be hard to imagine how a butterfly forms from a worm. Videos can be shown that show how a beautiful butterfly emerges from the pupa. Such presentations are sure to leave the students awestruck and keep them interested in the study of Biology in later years in life.
Biology also involves the study of evolution and the pre historic animals and birds that we have evolved from. Without images and graphical presentations, it is hard to imagine the existence of creatures like dinosaurs, the mammoth, etc. especially for a first timer. Interactive whiteboard resources help to better drive home the point. Studying and rote-learning through books is no match for the kind of learning that these resources can afford.
